Africa's first medical marijuana dispensary is now open to the public in the continent's most well-known cannabis city, Durban South Africa.
Named Holistic Relief Wellness and Pain Management Centre, the dispensary will be selling CBD based products prescribed to patients.
Patients at Holistic Relief Wellness will consult with a traditional healer and the owner to have in-house doctor and chiropractor to provide patients with a full range of medical services.
Local activist, Kirithi Thaver, will be running the medical marijuana dispensary. Kirithi has been pushing the government to legalize cannabis since a landmark superior court ruling.
Thaver's goal for medical marijuana is “to break the stigma of cannabis, to show that cannabis can be used effectively to treat a number of conditions and to integrate medical professionals as well as traditional healers to allow the whole of South Africa a holistic approach to healthcare," he told Al Jazeera.
